What?
Tidawnloader was a self-hosted music downloader and manager for Tidal.
The idea was that you run it on your own server or computer, and you can download and manage your music from one place.
I have stopped working on this project and it does not work anymore.
Why?
There isn't really a good way to download and manage music and to easily download it in high quality, so I decided to create tidawnloader.
Tidal is a music streaming service that has music in lossless quality. This means it is much higher quality than Spotify and YouTube Music.
How?
The app is made with C# and Blazor. It stores its data in a MariaDB database.
I found an existing open source project called Monochrome, which lets you listen to Tidal's music for free. It helped me a lot with finding ways to download music from Tidal.
To make it easy to run, the app comes with a Dockerfile. GitHub workflows build the Docker image automatically.
To start it, you download the docker-compose.yaml file, change the settings you want and run docker compose up -d.
What happened?
Downloading music like this is not allowed by Tidal. The api I got from Monochrome is also unofficial and uses a pool of accounts, and those accounts keep getting banned. Because of this I could not make it properly, so I stopped working on it.
I might continue working on it in the future but using YouTube as a source. This will mean that it won't be in lossless quality.
These are the things that worked before I stopped:
- Searching for an artist by name and storing it.
- Downloading individual songs in a separate menu.
